Charette Lakes

Charatte Lakes is 1,900 acres of public land located approximately 60 miles south of Raton, between Springer and Wagon Mound.  The property is a New Mexico State Wildlife Area (special regulations apply) and the primary attraction is fishing in Charette Lake.  In addition to fishing, the area offers wildlife viewing, hiking (no trails), camping, and horseback riding.  Charette Mesa has scenic views of the mountains to the west and open plains to the east, and the eastern edge of the property overlooks a deep canyon.

New Mexico Game and Fish has a pdf file available for download that contains a map, area regulations such as seasonal closures, and recreation suggestions.
