Stubblefield Lake

Located 34 miles southwest of Raton, Stubblefield Lake and Laguna Madre are two manmade lakes open to public fishing and other outdoor recreation activities.  The area is interesting in that it is private property but open to the public through an agreement with the New Mexico Game & Fish.  And because it is not a state wildlife area a GAIN permit is not required.

Can’t say I’ve had much luck fishing Stubblefield, especially after it dried to a hot smelly puddle in the recent drought, but it has refilled after a wet 2015 season.  Aside from possible fishing and hunting, Stubblefield is a good location for storm and wildlife watching.

The New Mexico Department of Game & Fish website has more information and a PDF access map.
