Eagle Nest Lake State Park

Sixty-five miles southwest of Raton is a relatively new park, Eagle Nest Lake State Park.  The Department of Game & Fish purchased the lake in 2002, and in 2004 the State Parks Division acquired some adjacent land and the area was designated a State Park.  Prior to then, the lake was privately-owned and leased to the New Mexico Department of Game & Fish for public fishing access.

Fishing is popular among local residents and visitors, including winter ice fishing.  The park also offers views of the surrounding mountains, hiking trails, a campground, and boat ramps.
