With twelve years of experience as a professional archaeologist, I find scientific investigations and archaeological excavations in the heart of downtown Raton to be very interesting and “Newsworthy.” Unfortunately there were no archaeologists on site when I visited, and the partially-completed excavations have been abandoned for several weeks now.

If anyone has information about the Memorial Rose Garden located on the south side of Ripley Park, I’d be happy to include it with the photo(s) on the Monuments and Memorials page. Contact.
Although I have no intention of monitoring the scanner and chasing emergency crews as they respond to calls, I do have an interest in capturing events of local interest in photographs. A new category, Newsworthy, has been created to share these photos with others in the community or anyone who might be interested. The first Newsworthy photographs to be posted are from a recent house fire on N 5th Street.
Photographs submitted to the 2014 International Art Exhibit and Sale have been uploaded. Three of the photographs are from New South Wales, Australia, and two others are from the Northern New Mexico area.

Two new pages of photographs have been added, each of which will be periodically updated.
The first page is Monuments and Memorials. Eventually it should contain photos highlighting all of the major memorials, monuments, and historic markers within Raton.
The second new page is In the Garden. More pictures will be added to that page’s gallery as photographic opportunities arise.

Welcome to RatonPhotos.com, a new website created to highlight the events, scenery, and history of Raton, New Mexico through photographs.

To kick off the website three photo categories have been created, each highlighting a recent Raton public event: Rockin’ Wings and Wheels car and airplane show, Fourth of July parade on historic First Street, and the annual Independence Day fireworks display.
